Cookie Policy
This policy explains how we use cookies and similar technologies on our platform, and how you can manage your preferences.
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how LimeworkTechnologies LLC uses cookies and similar technologies on RateAgent.io.
It lists everything we store on your device, and it lists it completely. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not load any third-party analytics, session-recording or heatmap service. The only choice this policy asks you to make is whether we may remember two conveniences, described in section 3.2.
3. What We Store on Your Device
3.1 Strictly Necessary
These are necessary for the Platform to function properly. They enable core functionality such as security, session management, and finishing something you have started. You cannot opt out of essential cookies, and nothing here is used to profile you or shared with anyone.
- Sign-in cookies: Keep you signed in and let your session renew without asking for your password again. Your browser will not hand these to JavaScript, and each renewal cookie is sent only to the one address whose job is to spend it.
- Anti-forgery cookies: Confirm that a sign-in request came from our own pages
- Your cookie choice: Records the decision you make on the cookie banner, so we do not ask again. Without this one there is nowhere to record a refusal.
- Sign-up progress: Remembers which step of broker registration you have reached, so a reload does not send you back to the beginning
- An unsent message: If you write a message to a broker and we ask you to sign in first, it is held until the sign-in finishes and then sent. It is not kept afterwards.
- An unposted review: If you write a review before signing in, its text, ratings and any files you attached are held in this browser for 24 hours so they survive the sign-in. They are deleted once the review is posted, if you discard it, when you sign out, or when the 24 hours expire, whichever comes first.
3.2 Preferences
These remember your choices to provide enhanced features. This is the one category you can turn on and off, and it is off unless you allow it. Turning it off deletes both items from this device.
- Recent searches: Saves the broker searches you run so you can return to them from your recent searches page
- Remembered email: Fills in your email on the broker sign-in form. Stored only if you also tick "Remember me" on that form; your password is never stored.
There is no analytics category and no marketing category on this list, because there is nothing to put in either one.
4. Third-Party Services
One third-party service runs in your browser on our pages:
- Google Sign-In: So we can offer "Continue with Google" on our sign-in and registration pages. Google may set its own cookies when this loads, governed by Google's own privacy policy rather than ours. If you sign in with an email address and password instead, you never use it.
That is the whole list. We do not use Google Analytics, or any other analytics, session-recording, heatmap or customer-data service. We run no advertising and place no advertising cookies. The social media links in our footer are ordinary links: they set nothing unless you follow them, at which point you are on that company's site under its own policy.
5. How We Measure Use of the Site
Because we load no analytics service, anything we need to count is counted on our own servers rather than in your browser. For example, the broker matching tool allows each visitor a set number of matches per day, and we count those to apply the limit.
When you open a broker's profile we count one view for that broker, on that day, so the broker can see how many people looked at their profile. We also record whether you arrived from a search engine, from a link on another site, or directly - that one word, and never the address of the page you came from. We keep these view records for 90 days and then delete them. Brokers are shown counts only, never who viewed them.
Alongside that view we also record how long the profile was open and actually visible on your screen, as a number of seconds. The timer stops whenever you switch to another tab or window, and it stops counting altogether after ten minutes, so a page left open is not recorded as reading. The number is stored on the same view record, kept for the same 90 days, and deleted with it. It tells us which profiles people read rather than glance at, which helps us decide what to build next. Brokers are never shown it - it is visible only to our own staff, and never alongside anything that could identify you.
Counting of this kind sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device, so there is nothing here for the choices in section 3.2 to switch off. We do not keep your network address next to these counts. The address is converted into a scrambled key using a secret we hold separately, and that key is what is stored, so the stored value cannot be turned back into your address by anyone who obtains it.
What we collect automatically when you use the Platform, and how long we keep it, is described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last Updated" date.
